Biodynamic farmers and gardeners work with the rhythms of the moon, planets & constellations of the zodiac, recognising that plants grow not only through the fertilty of the soil but also with the support of the cosmos. Biodynamics is a way of enlivening the earth so the cosmic energies can stream into the soil and it fosters the connection between all living things and the cosmos. Consciously working with these cosmic formative forces and applying this knowledge in making and using biodynamic preparations is what distinguishes biodynamic farming.
Kim has developed an illustrated guide to working with moon cycles with respect to growing plants. It includes a simple 4 phase method along with additional information helping you to use the biodynamic calendar. This guide summarises a great deal of information in a simple practical way and has been an incredibly effective method for helping us to understand and apply the principles in the biodynamic calendar. We loved it so much we thought we would offer it for others to use as well.
You can start with the simple 4 phase model and gradually add to this using timings which relate to the biodynamic calendar. Biodynamic calendars provide additional information regarding timings including moon opposition saturn, ascending and descending moon, perigree and apogee (times when the moon is closest to and fartherest from the earth), nodes (times the moons and suns paths coincide) and rhythms of the moons path through the constellations.
